Early life
Divine grew up in a noble family, and as the only child, eventually inherited their property, a large mansion located in Dewroot, and the title of a lady. In her free time, she indulged in her main hobby - she loved designing fancy robes, tunics and armor pieces, although she never got the chance to make any of her projects into reality. Unfortunately, the duties that came with her title would get in the way of her feeling truly happy about her life. Despite her fondness for other females, she was pressured into a betrothal with a male bug from another noble family, to maintain their diplomatic relationship. She agreed to it, but she felt no love for her soon-to-be husband, Celio.
However, not long before they were to be married, war broke out in her land, and the damage inevitably reached her, burning down the premises and ending in multiple deaths within her court, including her betrothed. Divine managed to escape, and while on the run from the attackers, she ran into a campsite where she met Grimm. She knew she needed protection, and Grimm was looking for company, so they decided to travel together. They left Divine's homeland, and as they traveled between towns and cities, they gathered a group of other bugs in need, whom Grimm offered to take in. Eventually, as Grimm noticed Divine's eye for fashion, and the talents of the other bugs in their cicle, the group morphed into what would become The Troupe, officially founded by Grimm with the help of Divine. The two became close friends over the years, and remain so to this day. Divine was finally able to embrace her talents, now with a dedicated crew responsible for the Troupe's performance costumes, though she inhabits a comfortable position of the costume designer, as opposed to being officially recognized as the co-founder of the Troupe. As a result, many of the Grimmkin don't realize how valuable of an individual she is for the whole collective.
During the many years of travels, tours and performances, her friendship with Grimm went through many periods. They were never interested in each other romantically, instead, she supported all of his casual encounters, to the point the two became very comfortable about that subject in each other's presence. She would join Grimm during many social events, enjoying a couple of drinks and dancing, though she was always the more responsible between the two of them. She supported Grimm in his attempts at romance with the bug named Irma, noticing what he saw in her and believing the two were perfect for each other. This is why it came to her as a huge shock when Grimm revealed to her that the relationship didn't work out. Ever since then, she could notice that he seemed much less eager to find love, and instead only searched for pleasure. Despite her attempts at talking to him, she could tell that he was hiding a lot, but no matter how she approached him, she could never get to the bottom of his troubles. She cared for him as a friend, though at times it seemed as if the concern was one-sided.
Nevertheless, she never turned her back on Grimm, she was still grateful that he offered her this new life, and she understood that he must have had a good reason to feel like this. Her assumption was only solidified many years later, when Grimm returned from one of his frequent Hallownest visits looking heartbroken. He tried to hide it, but she wasn't blind, and she put two and two together - he visited this land many times, and each time she could see him bursting with joy after each one. It reminded her of the days of his relationship with Irma, and so the reason was not difficult to guess. He was in love, and she was ready to support him. But as it appeared, that too was not to last, and Grimm became even more difficult to reach than ever. It was a difficult time for their friendship, Grimm was especially frustrating to deal with, though Divine knew he needed all the help he could get. She worked together with Brumm, another member of the Troupe and Grimm's right-hand bug who eventually also become her friend, to find ways to help Grimm cope with his loss.
Throughout her life, she never seeked love herself. As she often tells others, her work is her only love. Making costumes for the Troupe was a dream come true, and for the first time in her life, she felt truly happy. That is not to say she never engaged in casual relationships, but it was clear that she had no interest in finding a long-term partner. That said, she always enjoyed giving others advice and helping them set up their dates, it was as if the help was enough for her to satisfy her interest in romance.
Present day
After Grimm's reunion with Vyrm, who as it turned out, was the one Grimm was in love with for so many years, Divine breathed a sigh of relief. Grimm finally seemed much happier than ever, and better yet, he approached her not soon after to apologize for all the headache he caused her, and to thank her for sticking with him throughout all the hardships. She accepted his apology with no issue, and seemed excited to meet Grimm's partner. Her intuition was wrong with Irma, but this time she knew for sure that the two would be happy together. She even became good friends with Vyrm himself, and would show off her skills at arranging dates when she helped him in romantic matters.
Now, 10 years after Vyrm's return, Divine feels at home in Dirtmouth. No longer forced to travel, she moved into a small house near the Troupe quarter of the town. She continues to make costumes for their performances, and she even expanded her work to accept custom clothing orders for the other bugs in the town. She's a close family friend for the Vyrm household, and the weird but lovable aunt to Grimm and Vyrm's little ones.
